Plague Suspected in Treasure Valley Ground Squirrel Deaths

Preliminary tests of ground squirrels (whistle pigs) found dead in desert areas of Ada and Elmore counties have come back positive for plague.  Idaho public health and Idaho Fish and Game officials are asking people to take precautions as outdoor summer activities shift into high gear over the long Memorial Day weekend.

CDHD Offices Closed on Monday, May 30th

CDHD's offices in Boise, Mountain Home and McCall will be closed on Monday, May 30th in honor of Memorial Day. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, May 31st.


CDHD Holds Preparedness Exercise With Community Partners

On Wednesday, May 11, CDHD, along with Southwest District Health, the Greater Idaho American Red Cross, Canyon County, and other community partners held a full-scale exercise to utilize emergency preparedness plans. The exercise will be held a the O'Conner Field House in Caldwell.

Zika Virus

Zika virus is spread to people through mosquito bites. The most common symptoms of Zika virus disease are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes).

Outbreaks of Zika have occurred in areas of Africa, Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, and the Americas. However, outbreaks are spreading to new countries.
